Over 94% of all debit cards in Belgium are Bancontact cards, and the solution is supported by all major Belgian banks, including ING, KBC, and BNP Paribas Fortis.
When a customer pays on a computer, the transaction can be approved traditionally by entering the card details from the physical Bancontact card using a card reader. If the customer is shopping on the go via a smartphone or tablet, the official Bancontact app (or an integrated mobile banking app) opens automatically. Here, the customer simply scans a QR code or enters a personal PIN code to confirm the purchase in seconds.
Payment, processing, and settlement take place in EUR. Bancontact supports refunds, partial refunds, one-click payments, and recurring payments, and you can refund a payment up to 180 days after completion.
